FAO Returns and Exchanges

It hasn’t quite fit

since I got it to be honest.

Really the length is just too short

for all the things to be done.

The chest is too tight most days

and the skin much too thin.

On dry days I take the feet for a long walk

as instructed, and I spend time in water,

smile at strangers

and meditate, or try, most mornings

and I appreciate the sunlight

but

I’m tripping on frayed edges so often,

people notice

and theres not much stretch in the hips

after some wear.

The heart was quickly scarred

and the soul doesn’t bear the weight

of everything the eyes can see.

It’s all too heavy.

While it’s true a kiss can pause a harsh thought

and a hug can ease a day,

this one feels too fragile for this world, so

I’d like to return it.

Perhaps the next incarnation

will be something

more suitable for the time.
